Identity, Self-Worth and Failure
Ever been to Disneyland? Or Disney World? How about the rich history of movies that have appeared on the Big Screen? Seen them? Walt Disney in anyone’s estimation was more than a success! But, it was not always so.
In the day Walt was fired from his job at the Kansas City Star because, in the editor’s opinion, ‘he lacked imagination and had no good ideas’.
In 1921, Walt formed his own animation company in Kansas City. That enterprise did not last long and he was forced to dissolve the company because he couldn’t pay his rent and reportedly was living off of dog food!
Despite these perceived failures, he did not give up. He pushed on and pushed through and well, twinkle twinkle little star..,..
This is one of my favorites. Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken was 62 years old and with only a $105.00 social security check in his hand, pitched his chicken recipe. The rest is history!
The world around us has a measuring line for those who succeed and those who fail. Those who succeed are worth far more than those who fail. We have Movie stars, Sports stars, Politicians, Pop Stars, and the list goes on. In fact, appearance is now a measuring tool to bestow worth.
Let me give you some good news! You are an image bearer! Created in the image and likeness of God Almighty! He does not use the measurements of this fallen world system to bestow worth. He bestows worth because of who you are and whose you are!
But, it is extremely difficult to free oneself of the pressing, conforming power of this world system as it relates to Identity and Self Worth. It is a journey out of Darkness and into His Light.
Why not start today, in this moment? Why not start excepting that you are a noble image bearer? Stop judging yourself by this world’s standards! Accept who you really are and begin to think and live in that truth! What happens next, who can tell. But it will be quite a story!
